Raised in a multi-generational pastoral family with deep roots in the Sivas Province of Eastern Anatolia, Devran Arslan grew up walking alongside legendary karabaş (black-masked) flock guardians that defended livestock against Eurasian wolves and brown bears in sub-zero mountain passes.

Upon establishing Devran Arslan Kangal Ranch in the United States, Devran noticed that many dogs marketed in America as "Kangals" were heavily crossbred with Mastiffs or mixed Anatolian lines—sacrificing agility, longevity, and stable flock instinct for excessive, unhealthy bulk. His mission became uncompromising: import and breed only 100% pure, DNA-verified, working-line Sivas Kangal Dogs.
